Hundreds of people belonging to various political and social realities in Genova decided to bring life back in a 6000 square meter city building abandoned since 1997.

Only a few days later already dozens of empty and deserted rooms are buzzing with new creative occupiers: art groups, theatre groups, media activists, student collectives, migrant communities, filmmakers.

The variety of topics, interests and opinions are so different that the occupiers decide to stake to their individual identities and beliefs but slowly become contaminated in a common project.

In recent years the Buridda’s Laboratories have promoted various initiatives of a political, artistic, social and cultural life: theatre, concerts, book presentations, debates, film screenings, dinners, performances, photo exhibitions.

This occupied space is now home to the restless young who actively participate in the alternative educational and cultural life of the city. In this abandoned University, the youth inhabiting the building self organise and hold events and workshops celebrating the Do It Yourself (DIY) culture.

Some of the other activities in the occupied building inlcude broadcast radio, a chemical laboratory, band rehearsals, indoor climbing, an urban garden, even a circus, and independent workshops like juggling, boxing, carpentry, fashion designing; all under one roof.

A public space that through self-management and non-profit social events claims the ability to self-determine their lives through a different model than the ones imposed by our capitalist’s democracies.
